Families with cats often install a cat door for their beloved pets. Some
people call these cat flaps. The idea of a cat door is to let a car come in and
out without the owner opening the door. These pet openings have come along way
since they were initially tried and tested. They are framed with resistant
plastic or wood. The doors themselves are built to last the comings and goings
of the cat. These are important points when buying or considering different cat
doors.

Explaining The Cat Door
Size and Form
Always take the breed and size of your cat in consideration when buying a cat
flap. Some cats are larger than most while others seem quite finely boned that
they cannot actually push open a heavy cat door. The frame that holds the door
should be resistant to water, since it will be exposed to rain and even snow.
Some cat doors are built in glass while others are installed through walls.
Obviously, the size and material of the door should be comfortable to the cat's
size and strength.
Electric or Magnetic
These doors were designed to work in coordination with the cat. Some doors can
sense the presence of the cat through a "key" attached to its collar. This
distinction gives the cat the advantage of being the only cat able to go in and
out of the cat door. It can save the cat's life if it's being chased by dogs or
children. The disadvantage to this is that if the "key" gets lost, the pet is
left out on its own until such time that its owner wonders where it could be. In
other types of doors, the trap will open by detecting the presence of the cat
itself, and not a collar. Since the features of each cat door vary from
manufacturer to manufacturer and from model to model, it pays to find specific
information about them before making a purchasing decision.
