We Are Getting a New Boston Terrier Puppy, and We Don't Understand What Crating Is. Any Help?

We were researching Boston Terriers, and we found all we need to know, except what "crating" is. We read Bostons must be crated for six months, can someone help us with that? In addition, if you have anything we should be concerned about with a Boston Terrier, could you please add that, as well?

Crating is what you could use to train your puppy. A crate is a cage. But for dogs. Here is a basic crate very good for training:

It is something for your dog to feel comfortable in. Like HIS space. If you leave the door open throw in some treats but dont close the gate on him. He will think hes in trouble. And dont use a crate to punish a dog. It is always a good way to house train him. The crate cant be too big because the dog could make one corner for sleeping and the other for peeing and pooing. A crate is also for a dog that you can't trust
walking around while you are out it is a good idea to put it in his crate for him to feel secure. And also put some toys in it like chew toys to keep him busy. 2-3 hours is the limit.

You can download a great guide to crate training on this website: http://www.cratetraining.net.

Crating is one of the best ways of training your dog, provided you do it right. You are using the dog's natural den instinct to housebreak, and you will also keep curious puppies out of trouble when you're not around to supervise. My dog is 7 years old, and he still sleeps in his crate every night! You can also do an internet search for 'crate training' – you should get lots of info. Good luck.

Crating is leaving the dog in a kennel type crate at night and anytime you can't be with the dog to watch it. It helps potty train the dog and keeps him safe when you can't watch him. Get a crate that is only big enough for him to stand and turn around in. Otherwise he'll poop and pee on one end and sleep on the other. A dog won't poop or pee where he sleeps. This is why you don't buy a giant crate for the dog. Try this link for some ideas of crates and prices. You can get them at other places as well. I just provided this link as a starting point for you. http://www.petsmart.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2767078&sr=1&origkw=crate

ok crating is basically putting your dog in a crate when you away and sleeping dont just let your dog roam until you know that they can handle being alone by themselves

why thi is important: one god i had was scared becasuse it was alone and tore everything up when she was left alone… being in the crate prevent this until they get used to it
e-mail me for more information if you want it

It's THE BEST way to go for taining puppies!! I recommend everyone do it. I've only had 1 dog and I Googled a lot of information and got some books, and it worked out fine. It's the fastest way to house break a dog.
