I have an 8 month old Boston Terrier and he never seems to bark! The only time I can get him to bark is by roughhousing with him and even then he rarely will do it. Now I know it is a blessing he doesnt bark that much…but it would be nice to know he was there sometimes!

It doesn’t depend on the breed so much but actually on the dog itself.
All dogs are different, just as all people are. You will notice that some people are very talkative while others a just that little more quite but still we are the same “Breed” That doesn’t mean we all need to be exact clones of each other, and guess what…it’s the same with dogs!
You can say that less barking is a good thing. It means your neighbours won’t get annoyed or even you, yourself. Still whether he barks or not, he is still the same lovable Boston Terrier
