Birmingham Boston Terrier Rescue – Rebels in Flight

I’ve had many dogs growing up, but not a ‘poop eater’ quite like her. We rescued her through a rescue orginization that took her from a puppy mill. I know the causes of the defecating in the cage due to being in mill conditions.
However, we’ve had her 2 months now and she has improved in the house but not in the kennel at night or during the day. She has been recently spayed and treated for a number of things from the mill including Giardia, Ringworms, and Demodex. Any tips such as additives to put in her food to make it more solid or more likely to hold it?
Tips in general please help..
Mix pineapple in with your dogs food. It supposed to be effective at stopping them from eating their own poop. Also the dog may not be getting enough nutrition from the food it’s eating so try putting the dog on a higher quality diet like Wellness.
i have had my 3 yr old boston terrier for about a week. he is a rescue from a puppy mill. we are very pleased with the progress that he has made in this little time.
my question is that just yesterday he started coughing. it more sounds like he is clearing his throat like he has a fur ball or something. i do plan on taking him to the vet. i figured i would post a question on here before i can take him tomorrow.
this is my second boston terrier (BT 4 Life) so i am aware of the reverse sneezing thing that they do that sounds like wheezing. could it be kennel cough even though we have had him for a week and he hasn't shown anything til now?
thanks to everyone who answered. hopefully the vet will get to the bottom of Reggie's cough and prescribe him some antibiotics. i will also keep him away from other dogs too. =)
You did a super thing in rescuing puppy from a puppy mill however you must be aware they never inoculate their dogs and that many dog ailments run rampant in the conditions they live in.You have kennel cough and if it sound like your dog is clearing his throat and the next stage is actually coughing that is a definitive answer as l see a lot of these cases. You are doing the right thing by taking to the vet as he will put him on a course of tablets and injection to cure him BUT you will have to keep any other dogs away from him as it is an air borne virus and very very contagious and l should know as have had it myself despite being inoculated dogs will get a light dose. When you see your vet ask when can your dog have his parvo////distemper////kennel cough shots and these mist be done when he is well assuming he has not got these diseases already…..sorry to scare you but puppy mills and backyard breeders NEVER inoculate their dogs so the animal you have there has not had any shots at all.At least you have rescued the dog and full marks for that so if anyone on this site has a go at you for going there just ignore them and carry on doing the right thing.Hope you enjoy your Boston they are nice breed.
want a Boston terrier, and I have 3 cats. Are bostons compatible with cats? Will my cats beat it up? And also, are they OK being on their own? My dog would only be home alone for less than 5 hours about 3 days a week. We have a large farm it could tramp around on, so what do you think? Could I take care of this dog? I don’t want to be unfair to it, so please, I welcome your answers. Also, are there any Boston terrier rescues around the NH area?
A friend of mine had a young, female Boston that coexisted with her 2 cats without a problem. It’s all on an individual basis, though – and the less exercise this hyperactive breed gets, the more likely you’ll have an issue.
However, you say you have lots of acreage for the pup to run himself out, so that’s in your favor. The very small amount of time that he’ll be alone will help as well, as you’ll be able to supervise him around the cats. I’d say give it a shot!
As for rescues, I found this New Hampshire Boston Terrier rescue (the “Boston Terrier Tea Party” – how cute!). Good luck, and kudos to you for leaning towards a rescue rather than a breeder!

We got her from a rescue from a puppy mill, so she’s had to learn to be dominant; however, we want to break this biting at our older dog with treats… Suggestions?
You are badly misinformed about pack behavior: not every dog in a mill learns to be dominant – many survive thru submissiveness.
A 3-month old puppy is a toddler with childish behavior. You wouldn’t try to “break” a 1-year old child of all his childish actions, so give the pup a break. Puppies bite! Let the baby be a baby, they will regulate their pack order when the time comes.
My husband of 16yrs says I treat our 5 dogs better than I treat him. He personally picked and bought 3, Boston Terrier, Old English Bull and English Bull.fhe Boston had a stroke 2 days ago. He is a 16yr old Boston Terrier.
The other 2 were rescued, a Chinese Pug and a Chiwienie
My husband is working, I’m not. I have not worked since the end of May of this year. He is 67 and I’m 59.
He is very angry that I am not working. I’m on a sub list for teacher’s aide for County Schools and he is a sub teacher for the same county. Every day he is working.
When he gets angry with me he says that I’m gonna have to give up my dogs and move out of this house. I’m also accused of marrying him for his money.
My defense is is that I have worked all my life. Now I’m on disability for Major Depression, Progressive Degenerative Discs and Neuropathy. Needless to say I have some struggles each day, especially if I leave home. He has witnessed my struggles and says it really is my fault. I should have known many years ago that I had Major Depression. Not knowing anything of what was going on with my body, I trusted my docs. Symptoms I presented were severe pain and insomnia, I was given strong drugs which I took. My husband scolded me for being a drug addict.
I’d just like to have advice as to how to respond.
Wow, your husband is not supportive toward you at all. Sounds like he has childish tantrums when he gets angry. Ignore him and get on with your life. He cannot throw you out of the house so enjoy your life as you see fit
