I have an 11 month old female boston terrier. In the last 2 weeks she has started drinking more than normal and she has started having accidents (peeing) in the house. This is not like her. Obviously she is peeing more now because she is drinking so much more but why would she be drinking so much more? She is having accidents daily now and when she does make it outside, she pees like 4 times when she used to just go once. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
It could be a number of things but i think you should leave this to your vet to diagnose .

I’m looking at purchasing a female boston terrier and I’m wondering how much they usually cost to purchase? I don’t want to use it as a show dog, I just like the dogs temperament and personality, does it vary in price if its not a show dog? Thanks for the help!

BOSTON TERRIER Breed Profile
Description: The Boston Terrier is a small, compact, muscular dog. It weighs between 17 and 25 pounds and is 15 to 17 inches at the shoulder. The Boston Terrier has a short, neat coat colored in seal, brindle, or black with white markings. This dog has a square head with medium-sized upright ears. The tail is naturally short and does not need to be docked. This is a very intelligent and sensitive breed and can be trained easily. Happily, this dog can live for 15 years or longer. It is also called the Boston Bull or the Boston Bull Terrier.
History: Not many dogs originated in the United States, but the Boston is one of them. The Boston Terrier was much larger to start, up to 45 pounds, and was used in pit dog fighting. It was developed originally as a cross between the English White Terrier (extinct) and the Old English Bulldog. This activity was left behind when Robert Hooper of Boston, bred the fighting dog with the amiable French Bulldog. The dog’s size diminished and its disposition improved with further selective breeding.
Temperament: The Boston Terrier is a very gentle and amiable dog that makes an excellent companion. The Boston is very affectionate and loves to take part in all family activities. History
Beginning around 1870, Boston Terriers were originally a cross breed of an English Terrier and an English Bull dog, and was originally known as Hooper’s Judge. A Hooper’s Judge was then bread with a smaller dog, cross bred with a french bull dog, and finally ending up as a Boston Terrier. When first popular in the States, they were prized as fighting dogs, originally being around 40 pounds, much larger that the breeds of today. They were officially admitted into the American Kennel Club in 1893.
Temperaments
They are very loving and loyal to their owners. They are very playful, quick to teach, and want to be part of the family. It takes a lot to get them angry, and often they will walk away rather than get mean. They will often show their feelings through their eyes the most. When upset they tend to tear up and give you that sad sad look. Because they are loyal, and only really bark if they perceive danger, they tend to make really good watch dogs. This also makes them ideal house pets for families with children as well as older people. They are a little high strung so if they don’t have things to do, people to play with, they may get into mischief. Over all that make really good house pets, and generally have a well mannered temperament.
Upkeep and Grooming
Their coats are short and they don’t shed very much but as with any dog should be brushed regularly with a non metallic brush. Because of their short fur, they are an indoor pet, while taking them out for short walks and chances for exercise during the summer are okay, in the winter they should be outside as little as possible. Short and stocky by nature, they are ideal for apartments, smaller homes, and places where a larger pet may find uncomfortable.
Health Problems and Concerns
They do tend to have some health problems that an owner should be aware of. Because of their flat faces, they can have troubles breathing, more so when they are stressed out or overheated, and have some kinds of allergies as well. Another reason they are considered an indoor pet. Because they have such big buggy eyes, they are easily damaged and can develop eye problems, like Cataracts, Corneal Ulcers, and others. They are prone to deafness, hip dysphasia, as well as many minor problems. With proper diet, grooming and preventative care, this breed should remain healthy for many years.

Those buggy eyes are cute, but they can develop eye problems. Some of the Boston Terrier eye problems can include, but are not limited to cataracts, corneal ulcers and environmental irritation. Another eye difficulty that can affect Boston Terriers is an affliction known as Cherry Eye.
Most incidences of cataracts are inherited. Juvenile cataracts may appear between ages one to four, while late-onset cataracts can occur slowly as the dog ages. Cataracts can lead to blindness, but not always. When your Boston Terrier gets older, they can develop other health problems, such as diabetes, which can also cause cataracts. Things to watch for are bluish, grey or white flecks in the eye. In some cases, surgery may be possible to correct cataracts.
Another common Boston Terrier eye problem is corneal ulcers. These may develop through irritation of the eyes from particles in the environment or from other internal eye health issues that cause infection and irritation. Injury of the eye is a common cause of corneal ulcers as well.
The best prevention of corneal ulcers is to protect your Boston Terrier’s eyes. Anything that could potentially scratch or cause injury to the eye, such as a sharp plant spikes, cat’s claws or using strong household chemical cleansers near your dog should be avoided.
Boston Terrier’s eyes can be susceptible to problems when exposed to harsh elements, such as sun and wind. Allowing her to have her head out the window while you are driving should be avoided. If you are going to be in sunny, windy or dusty conditions, consider getting a pair of dog goggles for your furry friend.
Cherry Eye can look similar to a tumor in the eye, as it is usually a bright red mass protruding out of the eye. It is caused by a gland popping out of its normal position. Boston Terriers have a third eyelid where this gland is located. Once the gland pops out, it swells up outside the eye, causing the unsightly cherry eye. This needs to be corrected surgically, but it is a fairly common procedure and most veterinarians would be familiar with it.
Keep a close watch for Boston Terrier eye problems. This is not meant to diagnose any eye condition. If your dog exhibits any symptoms of discomfort, is rubbing her eyes, or the eyes are red or discolored, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

The Boston Terrier is one of the few breeds of dog that America can claim as its own. Around 1870, Robert C. Hooper of Boston purchased Hooper’s Judge, a cross between an English Bulldog and an English White Terrier. Hooper’s Judge was bred with a smaller female, and that litter bred with French bulldogs, providing the beginnings of the Boston Terrier, America’s first non-hunting dog. Though originally bred for dog fighting, Boston Terriers are no longer used for that purpose and the aggressive traits have been bred out of the breed.
Also know as the Boston Bull, Boston Terriers are compact, muscular dogs with short, wide muzzles, dark, large round eyes, short tails and pointy erect ears. Their short coats come in black and white or brown and white and are easy to groom. Some breeders have tried selling all white Boston Terriers as rare. However, an all white coloring generally indicates a genetic weakness, making them more prone to health problems. Though Boston Terriers do shed, it is not excessive and with regular brushing, the shedding is easy to manage. Baths are only given when necessary.
With the proper care, Boston Terriers can live 15 years or longer, but usually average about 13 years. Boston Terriers will grow to an average of 15 to 17 inches in height and 10 to 25 pounds in weight. Their smaller size makes them suitable for all types of living environments including apartments. Boston Terriers do need regular sessions of walking and playtime, and do not require large amounts of space for their exercise. They are sociable and friendly dogs that are described as intelligent and energetic. Boston Terriers make good family pets and companions and are generally good around children and other pets. They make fair watchdogs; some Boston Terriers will bark only when necessary and others will never bark.
Boston Terriers are prone to breathing problems, due to their short snouts. Some of them will snore when sleeping, which can be a sign of a more serious medical condition, but it can be corrected with surgery. Exercise caution when out in excessive heat and humidity with a Boston Terrier, as they are more prone to heat exhaustion due to their short snouts. There are many breeds of small terrier dogs from which you can make your choice. Examples of such breeds include: the Australian Terrier, the American Hairless Terrier, the Bedlington Terrier, the Border Terrier, the Boston Terrier, the Brazilian Terrier the Cairn Terrier and the Cesky Terrier just to name but a few.
The small terrier dogs, in very general terms, are very courageous and confident dogs. They are very cheerful, as well as lively. Most of these dogs need a lot of attention and cannot be left on their own for very long periods of time as they can be very destructive.
Although most of these dogs are known to be a little stubborn as they tend to have minds of their own, they can be trained quite easily. You will therefore find great joy in training them. Despite this, some breeds like the Boston Terriers can prove very difficult to house train and will therefore call for a lot of patience from you.
Small terrier dogs are generally alert and this makes them very good watchdogs. Although they are friendly, some breeds can be very aggressive especially to people that are unfamiliar to them and need to be given time to get used to them. Now some people may read all sorts of implications from such a violent past. Some people might think that the Boston terrier dog would make a bad pet because of its aggressive nature. However, you should know that as a pet, the Boston terrier can actually be pretty mild mannered.
The temperament of the Boston terrier can be described as enthusiastic as it often loves to play. Most people comment that the Boston terrier actually has a great sense of humor. Boston Terrier Dog Breed

Beginning around 1870, Boston Terriers were originally a cross breed of an English Terrier and an English Bull dog, and was originally known as Hooper’s Judge. A Hooper’s Judge was then bread with a smaller dog, cross bred with a french bull dog, and finally ending up as a Boston Terrier. When first popular in the States, they were prized as fighting dogs, originally being around 40 pounds, much larger that the breeds of today. They were officially admitted into the American Kennel Club in 1893.
Temperaments
They are very loving and loyal to their owners. They are very playful, quick to teach, and want to be part of the family. It takes a lot to get them angry, and often they will walk away rather than get mean. They will often show their feelings through their eyes the most. When upset they tend to tear up and give you that sad sad look. Because they are loyal, and only really bark if they perceive danger, they tend to make really good watch dogs. This also makes them ideal house pets for families with children as well as older people. They are a little high strung so if they don’t have things to do, people to play with, they may get into mischief. Over all that make really good house pets, and generally have a well mannered temperament.
Upkeep and Grooming
Their coats are short and they don’t shed very much but as with any dog should be brushed regularly with a non metallic brush. Because of their short fur, they are an indoor pet, while taking them out for short walks and chances for exercise during the summer are okay, in the winter they should be outside as little as possible. Short and stocky by nature, they are ideal for apartments, smaller homes, and places where a larger pet may find uncomfortable.
Health Problems and Concerns
They do tend to have some health problems that an owner should be aware of. Because of their flat faces, they can have troubles breathing, more so when they are stressed out or overheated, and have some kinds of allergies as well. Another reason they are considered an indoor pet. Because they have such big buggy eyes, they are easily damaged and can develop eye problems, like Cataracts, Corneal Ulcers, and others. They are prone to deafness, hip dysphasia, as well as many minor problems. With proper diet, grooming and preventative care, this breed should remain healthy for many years.

Boston Terrier Eye Problems

Some of the Boston Terrier eye problems can include, but are not limited to cataracts, corneal ulcers and environmental irritation. Another eye difficulty that can affect Boston Terriers is an affliction known as Cherry Eye.
Most incidences of cataracts are inherited. Juvenile cataracts may appear between ages one to four, while late-onset cataracts can occur slowly as the dog ages. Cataracts can lead to blindness, but not always. When your Boston Terrier gets older, they can develop other health problems, such as diabetes, which can also cause cataracts. Things to watch for are bluish, grey or white flecks in the eye. In some cases, surgery may be possible to correct cataracts.
Another common Boston Terrier eye problem is corneal ulcers. These may develop through irritation of the eyes from particles in the environment or from other internal eye health issues that cause infection and irritation. Injury of the eye is a common cause of corneal ulcers as well.
The best prevention of corneal ulcers is to protect your Boston Terrier’s eyes. Anything that could potentially scratch or cause injury to the eye, such as a sharp plant spikes, cat’s claws or using strong household chemical cleansers near your dog should be avoided.
Boston Terrier’s eyes can be susceptible to problems when exposed to harsh elements, such as sun and wind. Allowing her to have her head out the window while you are driving should be avoided. If you are going to be in sunny, windy or dusty conditions, consider getting a pair of dog goggles for your furry friend.
Cherry Eye can look similar to a tumor in the eye, as it is usually a bright red mass protruding out of the eye. It is caused by a gland popping out of its normal position. Boston Terriers have a third eyelid where this gland is located. Once the gland pops out, it swells up outside the eye, causing the unsightly cherry eye. This needs to be corrected surgically, but it is a fairly common procedure and most veterinarians would be familiar with it.
Keep a close watch for Boston Terrier eye problems. This is not meant to diagnose any eye condition. If your dog exhibits any symptoms of discomfort, is rubbing her eyes, or the eyes are red or discolored, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

The Boston Terrier is one of the few breeds of dog that America can claim as its own. Around 1870, Robert C. Hooper of Boston purchased Hooper’s Judge, a cross between an English Bulldog and an English White Terrier. Hooper’s Judge was bred with a smaller female, and that litter bred with French bulldogs, providing the beginnings of the Boston Terrier, America’s first non-hunting dog. Though originally bred for dog fighting, Boston Terriers are no longer used for that purpose and the aggressive traits have been bred out of the breed.
Also know as the Boston Bull, Boston Terriers are compact, muscular dogs with short, wide muzzles, dark, large round eyes, short tails and pointy erect ears. Their short coats come in black and white or brown and white and are easy to groom. Some breeders have tried selling all white Boston Terriers as rare. However, an all white coloring generally indicates a genetic weakness, making them more prone to health problems. Though Boston Terriers do shed, it is not excessive and with regular brushing, the shedding is easy to manage. Baths are only given when necessary.
With the proper care, Boston Terriers can live 15 years or longer, but usually average about 13 years. Boston Terriers will grow to an average of 15 to 17 inches in height and 10 to 25 pounds in weight. Their smaller size makes them suitable for all types of living environments including apartments. Boston Terriers do need regular sessions of walking and playtime, and do not require large amounts of space for their exercise. They are sociable and friendly dogs that are described as intelligent and energetic. Boston Terriers make good family pets and companions and are generally good around children and other pets. They make fair watchdogs; some Boston Terriers will bark only when necessary and others will never bark.
Boston Terriers are prone to breathing problems, due to their short snouts. Some of them will snore when sleeping, which can be a sign of a more serious medical condition, but it can be corrected with surgery. Exercise caution when out in excessive heat and humidity with a Boston Terrier, as they are more prone to heat exhaustion due to their short snouts. Boston Terriers are more likely to experience problems with heart and skin tumors and are more likely to suffer eye injuries due to their prominent eyes.

There are many breeds of small terrier dogs from which you can make your choice. Examples of such breeds include: the Australian Terrier, the American Hairless Terrier, the Bedlington Terrier, the Border Terrier, the Boston Terrier, the Brazilian Terrier the Cairn Terrier and the Cesky Terrier just to name but a few.
The small terrier dogs, in very general terms, are very courageous and confident dogs. They are very cheerful, as well as lively. Most of these dogs need a lot of attention and cannot be left on their own for very long periods of time as they can be very destructive.
Although most of these dogs are known to be a little stubborn as they tend to have minds of their own, they can be trained quite easily. You will therefore find great joy in training them. Despite this, some breeds like the Boston Terriers can prove very difficult to house train and will therefore call for a lot of patience from you.
Small terrier dogs are generally alert and this makes them very good watchdogs. Although they are friendly, some breeds can be very aggressive especially to people that are unfamiliar to them and need to be given time to get used to them. A good example of such a dog is the Australian Terrier. Contrary to this, some breeds like the Border Terrier are very sociable with strangers and indeed, very good with children.
These types of dogs have high energy levels and although they can be active indoors, they need to be exposed to physical exercises outdoors. Although many of them do not bark unless they have a reason to do so, some breeds like the Brazilian Terriers can bark too much and need to be reassured that all is well.
Most small terrier dogs like the Bedlington Terrier are very calm, yet others like the Brazilian Terrier are very restless and may enjoy running around in the house.
It is important that you understand your terrier dogs so that you know what they are capable of and as such, work towards helping them become the best that they can be.
